St Martin's, Isles of Scilly
CRHA owns two 3 bedroom houses on St Martin's.
The homes were completed in March 2011 and feature high levels of insulation, hot water provided by a solar thermal system, wood-burning stoves which also provide heating via radiators, back-up electric panel heaters and rainwater harvesting systems.
The properties are connected to a septic tank and a service charge is payable in addition to the weekly rent to cover the costs of desludging etc.
Solar Sheds
On Bryher and St Martin's we were asked to give some thought as to where we could position the solar panels to minimise their visual impact. The solution we came up with was the Solar Shed:
