CRHA & Community Land Trusts in Cornwall

This page gives details of how CRHA has been actively involved in supporting the development of community land trusts in Cornwall.

Cornwall Community Land Trust

Cornwall Community Land Trust (CCLT) was established by CRHA in 2007 as part of our Cornwall Community Land Trust Project. It is now a separate independent organisation.

St Minver CLT Limited

CRHA supported the establishment and development of St Minver CLT by providing advice and guidance through our Community Land Trust Project Manager.

This Community Land Trust was registered as a Charitable Company Limited by Guarantee in December 2006. It is a Registered Charity.

The CLT purchased a site in Rock and in October 2007 a start was made on the development of 12 two and three bedroom bungalows for local people through a self-build scheme.

North Cornwall District Council provided both a setting up grant and also development finance by way of a secured interest free loan.

The scheme was completed on time and within budget in December 2008.

The link below will take you to a short film about St Minver CLT from 2010:

A second phase started on site during March 2010. This was a joint development with Cornwall Rural Housing Association (CRHA). It provided 4 homes for rent through CRHA and eight self build plots for St Minver CLT. The CRHA homes were completed in January 2011. The CLT homes were all completed and occupied by early 2012.

St Minver CLT is one of the most successful CLTs in England. The film at the link below catches up with the CLT members and the residents in 2011 and examines the differences between the first and second phases:

St Just in Roseland CLT Limited

CRHA supported the establishment and development of St Just in Roseland CLT by providing advice and guidance through our Community Land Trust Project Manager.

This Community Land Trust was registered as a Charitable Company Limited by Guarantee in April 2007. It is a Registered Charity.

It has purchased a site for a scheme of 8 affordable homes for local people at St Just in Roseland using the self-build route.

Carrick District Council provided a setting up grant plus grants to help the CLT purchase the land and project manage the self-build scheme.
